What You Will Learn

During the course you will learn about:

  • The Scrum framework.
  • Agile Product Management as a Product Owner.
  • Value-Driven Development using Evidence-Based-Management.
  • Methods and techniques for product ideation and interacting with stakeholders.
  • Creating and aligning stakeholders and Scrum Teams around the strategy, vision, Product Goal and Sprint Goal.

Before Attending

You can attend without any prior knowledge or experience of Scrum. You will however get much more out of it if you make sure to do the below:

  • Read the Scrum Guide.
  • Pass the Scrum Open Assessment and Product Owner Open Assessment.
  • Have experience working as part of a Scrum Team, or have taken part in the Applying Professional Scrum course (or similar introductory course on working with complexity).
  • Have experience working with product delivery and/or development.
  • Have read one of the recommended Professional Scrum Master books listed on Scrum.Org – My personal recommendation as a starter book would be Scrum: A Pocket Guide by Gunther Verheyen.

This is a Flipped Learning Course – What does that mean?

Flipped learning courses require a greater commitment of time and engagement throughout the duration of the course as it involves doing work between sessions, including:

  • Mandatory self-study
  • Practical assignments
  • Trainer 1-2-1s (Optional, but encouraged)

The benefits of this increased committment include:

  • Work absence is minimised
  • Ability to learn from practical assignments between sessions
  • Ability to learn from the groups experiences througout the course

 

The course runs on Wednesday evenings 5 PM – 9 PM BST (British Summer Time).

 

Course Overview

The Professional Product Owner (PSPO) course is the definitive course to set you up as an effective Product Owner. It is designed with the aspiring professional in mind, and is suitable for both the beginner and expert practitioner.

If you are want to learn more about what it means to be a Product Owner in Scrum, this is the course for you. You will learn about why we use Scrum, the Scrum framework, how to navigate complexity using empiricism, and what it means for a Product Owner to be accountable for maximizing value.

The course is taught from the point of view of a Product Owner, and you will learn how to use agile product management to effectively increase the business agility of your organization.

You will leave the course with an understanding of Scrum and how you fit in to it, the importance of value-driven development, and an appreciation for what it means to truly be a Professional Product Owner.

Learning Experience and Format

The course is delivered either virtually via Zoom as well as using self-study in your own time, over the course of five weeks with four classroom sessions.

The self-study occurs in your own time between sessions and you then get together in a classroom, once a week, to engage in a mix of collaborative exercises, liberating structures, and group discussions – as facilitated by your trainer.

Whilst I do follow a curriculum, the exact delivery differs from course to course to ensure the experience meets your needs and sets you up for success!

  • Self-Study: Setting up, Product Management and Empiricism

Week 1 [2nd August]:

  • Classroom: Agile Product Management and Scrum Theory
  • Self-Study: Scrum Visual & Evidence-Based Management

Week 2 [9th August]:

  • Classroom: Scrum Framework, and Value-Drive Development
  • Self-Study: Create a Product

Week 3 [16th August]:

  • Classroom: Product Creation
  • Self-Study: Visualize your Product Backlog & Forecasting

Week 4 [23rd August]:

  • Classroom: Product Backlog Management & Forecasting
  • Self-Study: Pass Exam & Level-Up your Product

 

Assessments and Certifications

The Professional Product Owner (PSPO) course is associated with two globally recognized credentials, the PSPO I and PSPO II. Attending the course comes with a free attempt of the PSPO I assessment, and a discount for the PSPO II assessment.

These credentials, in the form of Credly certifications, are recognized in the industry as demonstrating a good understanding of Scrum, and Scrum.Org prides itself on their rigorous assessments.
