Why is Transparency so Important in Scrum? When we are talking about Scrum, we are talking about an empirical process, because this is what Scrum is there to enable. The foundation and keystone that makes empiricism and Scrum work is transparency.
According to the Scrum Guide, transparency requires processes and work to be visible to those performing the work as well as those receiving the work. And so what this means is that every part of the process should be absolutely clear to everybody on the Scrum Team without an inkling of uncertainty.
Without transparency, we:
🚀 Don’t know if we are looking at the right content, context, or resources.
🚀 Are unable to handle data effectively.
🚀 Have a lack of knowledge and information available.
🚀 May struggle to draw and establish the right conclusions.
Working without transparency is like trying to navigate to a destination without a map; maybe you have a compass and know where north is, but if you don’t know where you’re headed and what is around you, it doesn’t help either way. Transparency is therefore what you need to understand where you are going and what is happening around you.

Pragmatic Shift is a Scrum Training, Agile Consulting, and Agile Coaching consultancy that specialises in delivering Scrum.Org certified scrum courses, and helping organisations increase their business agility and product development success through agile consulting and coaching.
We firmly believe that a shift to agile is a pragmatic shift. A natural evolution from traditional project management and product management. A proven, reliable, and resilient framework for addressing compelling problems and developing complex solutions.
Over a decade’s worth of experience as an agile practitioner, agile consultant, agile coach, and scrum trainer informs our pragmatic approach to change. Agile dogma has no value in the context of product development or organisational change.
Instead, we look to start where you are, work with what you have, and make meaningful interventions that align with the objectives you are trying to achieve. Progress over perfection.
